The members of the Ark Angel Station decided to meet at an Irish pub for St. Patrick’s Day instead of meeting at one our houses, but we went to an English pub. We chose Emerald Tavern Games & Cafe on Research Blvd. We reserved a table for 6 hours from 1p to 7p, but met an hour and a half beforehand to have some food for lunch and so our table and the games didn’t get dirty. The food and beverages were very good. I had a London Fog tea drink and it was delicious. I also had the Fish & Chips, which was also delicious, but too abundant for my appetite as of late. The fish fillets were huge, so I only ate 1 of 2. John Halliday, who came later, ate some of my second fillet. I also ordered an appetizer that I don’t remember the name but it was VERY, very good, with melted brie on top of toast (bruschettas) with a blackberry sauce that you top it with. Very yummy.

We had 5 members present and played three games and had much conversation. First game was Down Force, where I slaughtered all of them with my blue car, with the wild card special ability. The second game was Steampunk Ralley, which we played at the February meeting. I didn’t play that game, but helped newbie play, while I did a crochet project. Steampunk Rally is very fun and because some of the phases of play are on your own, it can go very fast. The third game was Splendor. I think it was the first time I beat Kathy in that one.

If you haven’t been to Emerald Tavern, you should check it out. Besides gaming tables (some are free, some are pay for), they have a great bar with coffee and tea as well as liquor and great food selections. Additionally, they have games for sale and for rent to play at your table. If you pay for a table, the rental fee is waived. They also had paint and supplies for supplementing games, like creating miniatures.

Our next meeting day is scheduled for April 21.

Reed, Kathy and Mary vowed to do this trip each year, since it was Mary’s and Reed’s birthday month as well; however, this year Mary couldn’t attend. So, Kathy and Reed made the trek to Corpus Christi, TX at Rudy’s BBQ for the Joan of Arc’s 31st Anniversary held Saturday evening, January 6, 2024. Reed even was asked to sign the chapter’s award certificates since she was the highest ranking officer there (and the CO wasn’t).
Reed drove and they went down Friday night to stay in a hotel by the USS Lexington, naval aircraft carrier, and very close to the Texas State Aquarium. Reed and Kathy walked up and down North Beach, had lunch at Pier 99 and went to the anniversary party. They drove home Sunday after a very nice breakfast at the hotel. Reed played her Stingray Music app on the “Massive Hits of the 80s” channel, which Kathy seemed to like very much. They car danced and sang most of the way home. Maybe they’ll do it again next year, but still ladies only.

The Ark Angel Station had a joint meeting/gaming day with the Royal Dragoon Guards (RDG).

  • We’ll coordinate future events with them.
  • We have our own calendar, and Reed Bates went over a few highlights events.
  • Jeff Webb talked about TSR’s Gangbusters, a 1920’s RPG, which also has other different eras.
  • Jeff Webb presented Captain Sonar, which is a battleship LARP but on boards.
  • We rolled dice and played games.
  • Don’t forget Girl Scout cookies on sale.

We had a great time hanging with the crew of the USS Texas, which doubles as the RDG somewhat.

The Station was Region 3’s Chapter of the Year.  We had many meetings and many fun events.  The 323rd MSG got together for actual meetings and conversations with planned charity support.

Don’t forget to Register for STARFLEET’s International Conference 2013 to be held in Dallas, Texas August 1-47, 2013.

For more information check out the IC 2013 Website.

Although the Dr. Whovians can’t seem to get their butts in gear, the Ark Angel Station can and is bowling Monday, March 26, 2013, at the Dart Bowl in Austin on Grover.  Meet in the Dart Bowl Steakhouse at 7:00 p.m. and we will start bowling around 8:15 p.m.  See you there!

We are playing around with this to see if it aides in communications among our members. Stay tuned for more information.
